The Briar Patch

 Well Mayans is over, this will be a quick post but it was too long to post on Twitter and social media. A lot of this is just a rehash of an earlier post but updated with the show now being wrapped up, some final thoughts and a review of the finale. So it should go without saying. Spoilers ahead!! Kurt Sutter created Sons of Anarchy and it was a massive hit. Yes it took a couple seasons but so did Yellowstone to be a hit. Mayans never hit that. Allegedly Sutter had a plan for 4 shows in order SOA, Mayans, First 9 and Sons. 4 shows set in the same universe and all tied together. For those who remember it, the Shield is in the same universe (I am rewatching, its so good) This was proven when Bishop mentioned Vic Makey.... This isn't just me wanting it to be true. After Mayans failure to take off I doubt we see First 9 which I would love or Sons (Thomas and Abel and SOA) which I dunno if they become SOA it would take away from Jaxs story.  Mayans MC is wrapping up, it was an okay ride. It was no SOA and while we wouldn't want an exact copy at least some of the likability would have been good. Mayans had no characters I really got behind except Coco and he was written out, allegedly due to off screen drama. Honestly I think it was the writing and the loss of Kurt Sutter that killed the show. At the end of the day this is his baby and he was fired from it. When he is on a roll at something like Sons or the Shield, he is good but when you give someone control over something someone else dreamt up the product won't end up as good. The acting has been great but overall it has been unbelievable writing that has killed the show. Honestly I do hope these last 8 episodes are great, the two they started with were decent.... Anyways lets just have a look at a show I had so much hope for but kinda fell short. There were a lot of stories that seem to go nowhere. We have EZs photographic memory.  I am going to save the Mayans! Not the awesome Mexicans that I really wish I could go see, I mean I hope they are doing well and I want to see them someday. I would give anything to go back to the resort we got married at or even more the one our honeymoon was at..... But I am referring to the Sons Of Anarchy spin off. There are two episodes left this season and they have yet to be renewed. Viewership has decreased a lot this season or so I have read even though IMO its maybe the best season they have made..... Let's start from the start, I guess maybe I am not saving them I dunno how to bring viewers back. I am fixing what should have been....... Anyways the reason we loved SOA (And yes people did love SOA. For awhile you couldn't even go out without seeing someone wearing clothes with SOA on it) we were invested in the MC. So what's good? I am constantly asking myself that. There are a million options now a days. Cable, which is going downhill, Disney Plus, Netflix and Prime are all the things we have. I could go on about a million shows I have watched over the years BUT I think I am going to say it has to have aired in the last 3. I also figure I need to keep it down two 1 or 2 per service or this will go on all day.  I have to start with Game of Thrones. I am not about to go deep into it because for 7 seasons it was the best show on T.V. Yes it had some slow moments and some gross moments but it might have been the best thing on T.V. I will go as far as to say ever. Then we had the final season, with no source material. Could we just redo it? I am not complaining because I didn't like it, that it wasn't an ending I wanted. I mean how often did that show do something fans didn't want. I rant because it really was awful. Arya killed the Night King. Sure that was awesome, but that's it...

So 2014 is over, I guess now is as good a time as any to put out there what I liked in T.V this year. First off it was sad to see Sons leave TV. From the first season, when I bought a reaper crew hat and was almost in a fight in a bar over my "gang" hat to Jax driving Johns bike into a semi it was a helluva show. I do think it changed in season 4. It does become much darker and violent but i do think that was Mr. Sutters vision. It is one of the only shows I can say never had a dull season. There was more than enough prison rape though... Also first show i hate Donal in.Hoping Kurt Sutter has as much luck with his next show.... Boardwalk Empire! How did it become the final season and how did I not know it was on until the finale!! Nucky was the guy I loved to hate. Cosmic justice Jimmys kid took him out. I did also like that most of it wrapped up nice and it did stick to reality. I thought it coulda went on more but either way it was great. True blood, about frickin time....
