Restaurant Life or My Vanderpump Years part 1

SO just a heads up this will be 2 parts. Neither part is really long but together they seemed way too long for a single blog. I kind of divided it up between Gp and Edmonton. The first part I was a minor and maybe not fully in the "Industry" life. So I guess part 2 is more like Vanderpump and part 1 is a boy looking in. Restaurant life yo! From 15 to 23 I worked in restaurants, mostly a single major chain here in Canada. I did a few jobs, host / bus boy, salad maker, dishwasher, cook and delivery driver. To be fair this was 19 years ago. I was done in the industry but to this day when people have asked if I liked it or if I would go back (For the same $$$ I make now) I have always said yes. Honest truth, I don't know how people who aren't young adults make a life in the "industry". Having a mortgage, truck payment, house bills, insurance and just wanting to buy nice shit and travel the world I couldn't do it on a cook wage. When people say though if you ...

Northern Alberta Tour

I see a LOT of Alberta north of Edmonton in my travels. At first I tried to write it all out but that didn't work. Often I would get to town, go see customers. Take one out for dinner, depending I might do my night classes after or blog or write but not about my travels. I THINK I might start doing that again. Making little notes and memories about some of these towns. I will be 100% honest Alberta has some beautiful places. Places you might not think of but here my friends is my take on some of the North! Lets start of out Edmonton down Yellowhead Highway 16. I am not doing Entwhistle or Evansburg as I really don't know them. Honestly they seem like nice enough small towns but I just don't know them. Same as Wabamun. Great lake view but again dunno anything about it. Drayton Valley (pop 6802) I started going to a year ago. It is an oil town. I say that with no issues! I need to be pretty clear about this. I am fine with fuck Trudeau stickers and truck nuts. I get that som...

Pop Culture April

I have like 5 blogs started so I am finishing them up and I guess / hope in the last / next few weeks there will have been a lot put out by me! This is all pop culture and full I know a few of my last ones have all been anger and politics. So lets just chill!! First I am amazed by how even ball hockey has been in our div. after they divided into 2 divs it has been good. Like extremely even. As of this writing we are 6-3-2 and everyone is with 4 points of each other. Has been an interesting. One of our games we forgot to get a goalie a team playing afterwards that watched the game were impressed we could keep it so close. Also getting 7 goals for us that game was pretty damn good. Of course we lost 11-7 but it got desperate, they just kept dumping by the end hoping to hit the empty net. I currently am (Probably not after writing this, will jinx myself.) having my best season since 2011. I was 30 then, be 42 this year...  Think we could probably win our div this season, but I s...

Pop and Politics. A mini Autobiography

Lets start with honesty, this entry will be quick and dirty. (Right there thats not honest. I meant to do that but it exploded and this is now a 2 parter)  It is about me and what I believe and it is brought on by my new favorite podcast. Behind the Bastards. I ranted a tiny bit about them last blog and this is a carry on from that. When they do a real bastard it is one of the funniest and most well written pods I have heard in a long time. Honestly my only issue is the left leaning smugness that comes up if it has anything to do with politics in the current world. I need to be SUPER clear here, just because someone doesn't agree with a left leaning view hardly makes them a Nazi. That drove me mental, I cannot remember which episode it was but the Nazi Vs Commie debate was touched on, which is better?? NEITHER!! These are the two most bloody regimes in history. Just walk away and don't try and say either one was better... Also don't bring Antifa on as legit commenters. The...

September Potpourri

I am getting old, or at least my brothers are. I left home in 2000, and my brothers would have been 4 and 5. That is how I remember them, in my mind they have seemed stuck there. Yes I watched them grow up and they became teenage boys. They did all the stuff associated with that, dick, fart and gay jokes..... One went to school, the other went to work. And at some point along the way they became men. Or at least young adult males. On a long drive to Saskatchewan with my littlest brother (lil beast if you read older blogs) we sat and chatted about a million things. History, politics, food, health, religion. I have always considered myself smart, fairly knowledgeable but when my brother started speaking I was amazed. He brought up shit I had never heard of. He wasn’t arrogant or combative just made good cases for his ideas. (Something you don’t see on twitter…) I knew he wasn’t that little boy I remembered, the teenage boy addicted to video games and there was more than just a kid who ...

Grandma

It has been a rough month and a half. It is supposed to be a super fun month as I am finishing up everything to go to Mexico for two weeks to get married. I have been taking two step lessons, since I guess I dance like a drunk in a bar (To be fair that's how I learnt) In the last 6 weekends I have been on the road 4. For funerals for both my grandmothers. How fucked up is that? Both my grandmothers have passed in the last 3 weeks. Both were fairly sudden and it sucks. If you have read my autobiography blogs here, you would know I was very close with my maternal grandma. Below are some memories I have of her. I wrote them to say at her funeral. I didn't get half of them out. It was way to hard. I never knew how hard it would be to say them. So I guess for the dozen followers I have below are a few of my favorite memories of one of my grandmothers.(Oh as a side note a few people in this are named same as in my biography blogs. If you actually are interested you will have to go b...

High School Adventures!

High school was really about 2 things and maybe they weren't the right 2 things. MY first job and my girlfriend. But aint that a guys problem all his life?? Money and women??!! :) When we got back from Edmonton with Lil Beast I got a phone call. Not to apply on a job, no, but that I had a job at a local chain restaurant. The manager had been friends with my uncle for as long as I can remember. The general manager who everyone mistakenly thought was the owner was also friends with mom for as long as I could remember. So there it was no interview no nothing, just you start Monday after school. I was a bus boy, I cleaned tables, made salads and brought food out when needed BUT I was not ready on my first shift to carry food. That requires training!  HAHAHAHAHAH (No offense people in restaurants, but working in one from 15 - mid twenties no it really doesn't) AT this point I was still kinda shy and awkward. So the general manager brought all the waitresses and bus girls together....
