A quote I try to live by. That's a good one. I mean the best one I think I have ever heard was from my Grandpa, he told me "a man is only as good as his word." Which is nice, and I wish I could say that but I know in my life many times I have broke my word. Not always on purpose so as much as I wish I could say that was it I wont lie. Another really good one is Hemingway. "Everything you say you are going to do drunk, actually do it sober." I cant imagine if I acted on every dumb drunk idea I had and while I love that quote I don't think to use it would be true either. So lets be honest and go with "I was taught respect, I give the same amount of respect to the janitor as the CEO." That would probably the most true for me. And I guess here is my reasoning.
First and foremost I don't really care who you are. In my life I have met Judges, Lawyers, hookers, junkies, dealers, very successful businessmen, cops and everything in between. Know what I found out? People is people. A person can be "important" and still be an asshole. Wealth, power whatever they don't make a person a good person. That just shows they have some smarts or ambition about them. Or they knew the right person to blow at the right time. A janitor might not have the most glamorous job. I really dunno how much he might make but if that person looks after his family, pays his bills, yada, yada, yada and is a good person why would I not give them respect? I guess what I am saying is respect is earned. And I will give it to anyone who deserves it.
And what about undercover boss? I mean really do you know in this world who is who? If you are just going around being a little yes man to people you think are important, what if you miss someone?? You cant judge a person just by what they do. You never know if that guy in his pajama pants actually is some web CEO millionaire or if the CEO whose ass you are kissing right now is about to be fired tomorrow and his lackeys are next..... All I am saying is everyone deserves respect BUT no matter who you are it is easy enough to lose.
