Some of these topics are so random!! My thoughts on ageism, that is a random frickin topic! Like what do you wanna know? Do we have an example to work with or something....... No, so I guess I will just go with some random age shit.
I will be blunt, people go downhill with age. Can a 50 or 60 year old man do the same shit that a 30 year old can? If your honest no. And if they do I can guarantee they will feel it much more the next day. I don't just mean work either. I talking everything from sports to tying one on. Same with the mind. Don't get me wrong, I am going to get back to the mind. I am not saying it is gone but it ain't what it used to be. Not as quick. There honestly people go downhill with time. So is ageism is a valid thing. My thoughts are always the right person so for the right job. Your not going to get a 65 year old to run a race against a 20 year old. That's not discrimination, that's common sense and it is the older generation that seems to have that.
I work for a company that has a ton of long term employees. Each time one retires, it is a huge blow to us. And the biggest blow was when we lost the Godfather of Sheet Metal. Almost 50 years this man did nothing but bash tin. Even our best up and coming people don't know as much as he forgot. Some great things come with age, like experience. That is not something that can be bought, it cant be taught or given. It is learned and earned with time. While he couldn't likely swing a hammer like he used to he could show all the youngins the proper way to do it. The quickest and best way to do it. So what may give away with time can be replaced with knowledge.
Basically my thoughts are this. As in everything the right tool for the right job. An older person might not be the goal scorer on your hockey team, they become the coach. Ageism is a sad but true thing. It happens we all get older. Just hope we all get wiser and have something to pass down to the next generation.
Except #68. Jagr you are some how an unaging hockey machine.
