The Boomstick Fairytale

Honestly this is the last time I can do this rant (Probably not but....) A 6 year old brought a gun to school and shot his teacher. Gun control people are blowing up my social media with stupidity again. Since common sense and facts don't work, maybe this time I will tell a story, people used to learn from stories. Maybe I can bring that back, at least on people who have no idea about guns......

Once upon a time there was a early 40s male who liked guns. He enjoyed going to the range and shooting targets, he enjoyed shooting clay pigeons on his parents land when they went to visit. He had grown up his entire life around guns and surprisingly had never shot up anything!! Now this short middle aged man had both his PAL and his RPAL (If you are for gun control in Canada and don't know what those are, your opinion doesn't matter, clearly you are clueless) Those 2 handy dandy little licenses said he could buy long guns and restricted guns. Well that was until a wannabe king and his court of fools (I like that for the liberal party, I think I am going to keep using that one.)  outlawed certain guns and went after legal gun owners, rather than the bandits who were actually using illegal weapons to commit crimes. In the "great" capital of Edmonton there had already been numerous gun crimes committed in the first week of a new year. None done by legal gun owners but that was whole the court of fools was targeting. This bard has moved away from the tale of the middle aged man though so we will get back to him......

When this man was much younger in his teen years, this man was kind of a outcast. He was the smallest boy in his school and he liked fantastic picture books of heroes, which back then were not "cool". The majestic Marvelous company had not yet started putting out plays that made everyone enjoy the tales of heroes. Also he liked to write these tales and was stuck being skinny and bespectacled. Now this boy wasn't terribly bullied but when he was the smallest and other boys were hit with the magical testosterone and growing of course they liked to pick on smaller weaker people.

Now this boy had access to weapons, a few of them. He knew where his fathers boomsticks were, he knew where his grandfathers boomsticks were. These ones weren't even secured properly! He could have grabbed one and walked out his front door! (This I know wouldn't fly today and I can admit was probably an issue back then) Hell he even had his own magic semi-automatic boomstick and he knew where that was! This boy, he listened to the devil music that was violent! He played the boomstick games on the magic picture box (Admittedly they weren't GTA back then) not once though did it occur to him to take those boomsticks and do anything bad, even though they were right there!! In his last year of schooling the world changed. In the far off land of Columbine 2 boys did get angry and they did get boomsticks and took them to school. Many innocent people lost their lives that day. Where the boy went to school they had to start practicing in case someone brought a boomstick to school.... Something tragic happened shortly after this. The boy, who had been in a relationship with the same girl for 3 years and in his developing brain thought he was in love with, well she was unfaithful the week before their grad ceremony. He was crushed BUT not once did using boomsticks to take out his anger come into his head.

This boy however he wasn't done being stupid. He left his safe comfy kingdom to the bigger kingdom of Edmonton. There he would make a lot of poor life choices for many years! He would put himself so deep in debt he would pawn CDs and it made him very upset. He would have his heart kicked by girls. He would feel hopeless when he flunked out of school. As shit piled up on him not once did it come into his mind to take a boomstick and doing something terrible. Also the boomsticks, well they never did anything if no one touched them. I was like humans had to do evil with the boomsticks or else they were just a harmless inanimate object. There is a happy ending. One day the boy actually grew up, became a man got his shit together and put together a good life. Not once though did he think he should use boomsticks for anything evil.

Now as all this went on boomsticks became more and more of an issue. When they boy was young people kept boomsticks in their chariots. Right there for all to see and guess what? Nothing bad happened! People however who really didn't know anything about boomsticks and many who had never left cities to see boomstick "culture" where they are handled safely and children are taught to respect them, well these people with no knowledge started screaming how bad boomsticks were. They used any tragedy with a boomstick to demonize boomsticks. These people didn't want to look deeper, they didn't want to acknowledge MILLIONS of people owned boomsticks and handled them safely like the boy had, they simply wanted to say they were to dangerous for people to have. They weren't 100% wrong. Small boomsticks, boomtwigs that are held in a hand they really are only good for hurting people. You can't take a boomtwig hunting. However it shouldn't matter, if someone handles a boomtwig safely it is no more dangerous than any other inanimate object in the world. They didn't want to look at the fact something was wrong deeper in society, that is why boomsticks were being used more and more for evil. Boomsticks had been around for hundreds of years, so why now were things getting bad? These loud people didn't want to look at that, they wanted to put a bandaid over a boomstick wound rather than figure out why this was happening.

Even worse a dark prince, son of an awful dark prince took power in the beautiful land of Canada. Now this "prince" and his court of fools wanted to take away boomsticks. They didn't however go after bandits with boomsticks, they went after the people who used them safely. They went after boomtwigs, for some reason they seemed to think that Canadas much large and boom crazy neighbor Murica wouldn't still have a steady flow of illegals booms into Canada. The court of fools clearly knew nothing of boomsticks but they did know how to play with the "bards" to tell the tale that all boomsticks were bad. The court of fools was willing to say and do anything though to remain in the castle & they hoped they could get support from people who knew little of booms......

I legitimately gave myself a headache writing that & I never wanna hear the word boomstick again!! Are you getting the moral of the fairytale though? A gun is an inanimate object, it is not good or bad & it cannot hurt anyone without a human behind it. The world has gotten a LOT bloodier in the last few decades, with gun violence. Only a fool would say different. Taking away guns though isn't fixing anything. Look at the James Smith Cree nation last year, no gun was needed for the violence there. Taking guns is just a bandaid, we need to deal with the real issue and that is people! The boy in this story, well he didn't really have a bad life and never lashed out even though he had the access to do so. That was because he had a good family and was taught values. The issue isn't with guns, it is with society not valuing life. Society (Rap music, video games) glorifying violent behavior and people lapping it up. Not saying music or video games make people bad but not being taught right from wrong at home does. Hundreds of millions of people play games and listen to violent music and never act out, because they were taught right from wrong. We as a people need to do better, build a better world. Rather than try and blame inanimate objects for our problems.

Edmonton / Highway of Tears

This was going to be a small paragraph in a bigger random blog but it grew really fast and the fact is I thought it was rather interesting so it will be post of its own. I decided to add some of these womens names. I once heard a pod about Jack the Rippers victims, that humanized them. I think thats what should be done, why glorify freak shows and forget about the people who suffered because of them. Also I added a bit more as I was just going to, just quickly mention Edmonton but I think it is bigger than that. Also still cannot find a legit decent looking charity to donate to for MMIWG.... Msg me if you know one! IS there a serial killer in Edmonton? Or was there one active? On another long drive home I came across podcasts on EPS, which led to pods on what they called the Edmonton - Leduc murders. Which if you have been around Edmonton for awhile I know you have heard of. I just was unaware of the amount and length of time this had been going on. First thing though not all these mur

Alberta Politics Pre 2019 election

Ahh that lovely time every few years when we see the worst in all people is upon us! That's right elections are coming! The brutal truth is both federally and provincially we are going to see shit get nasty. From both sides, let's not pretend anyone is innocent. This is all I am going to say on politics for awhile, at least until elections OR if something crazy happens. I really need to concentrate on actual writing. Not twitter bickering with people. So here is it my thoughts on the current federal and provincial politics. (Breaking this into 2 parts. This one is going to be just media and Alberta) First let's start with the sideliners. The media and the peanut gallery. Rebel Media OR Chicken little media. Whichever you want to call them is fine by me. It has been years now I was blocked for using common sense or not drinking the Kool-aid by Ezzie and the Rebel account. I can say I never dropped into name calling or anything like that with either, but I guess not believi

Part 3 Addiction

So, I have stated first, we need the correct systems in place, and second, we need healthy citizens for a better society. One of the root problems in society, though, is addiction. A mental health problem that can lead to so much more. Family violence, crime, homelessness, job loss, and on and on. There is no cure for addiction. There is management, and there are many things we can do much better to help addicts and society. So, let's tackle this one next.  I like drinking! I like the taste of a good whiskey or red wine. Or the supposed "no taste" of good vodka. I like that little boost of confidence that tells me, hell ya, you can dance! Or the fact that, yes, after a long day, it does take an edge off. I have a ton of great memories of times when booze was around... The flip side of that is I'm not too fond of hangovers. I hate not knowing what happened the night before; I guess there is a term for this now: hangxiety. Some of my worst memories and things I hate abo
