Drag Queens, Provy & AHS NYC!

I saw a tweet a few days ago that made me get to thinking about things "Is taking your kid to drag shows child abuse?" Referencing drag queen story time. Let me answer that. No, it really isn't. On the flip side, does it do anything good for your child? No, it doesn't, anyone taking a kid to a drag show also isn't doing them any good either. They are gaining nothing of value, other than maybe getting a good story read to them.....

You're taking your children to drag shows for yourself, if you are honest. I read the tweets on this thread and they were all either "Its horrible!" or "Us non hateful people like going" Look at that simple line.  It doesn't say my child is getting A,B or C from going, no it says us none hateful people. Its a way for parents to say look at me! I am so progressive, I am raising a child that is going to be so bright! This isn't about children, it about parents. Seeing a man in drag isn't going to some how make your child more accepting or smarter or whatever. Its an ego stroke for parents. That your doing the  right thing somehow. So I will flat out ask, what does your child get from this? Nothing honestly, I mean yes they get read to and that is a big deal. We don't do that nearly enough in my mind, so yes that part is good. You could / should be doing that at home. Your kid also gets socialized, that is good to. I won't lie that is a good thing! So I am not saying there is not benefits what I am saying is overall it is for the parents more than the kids, to brag to their hipster friends

Let me tell you why I wouldn't take my kids to a drag queen story time.... Lets go back 25 years. Where I grew up there was no drag shows. Honestly it was a culture shock coming here and seeing drag shows (Typically in gay bars) the first one was uncomfortable if I am honest. Couple more and it was fun. Ill admit I will always prefer St Petes Gentlemen's club but everywhere I have seen drag queens they have been great. A few months back we were at Taboo and the MC was a drag queen. She was super passable and funny AF. Perfect choice for a sex based adult show. That's just it, drag queens have always been at adult based events. Look at other adult based events.... Strippers, nightclubs, sex toy stores, would you want to bring your child to that? So why then is it so important to have drag queens interact with kids? You don't want expose your child to those things so why drag queens? I don't understand.... I mean really you could bring your son to St Petes but what value would that have? Honestly last time I was at Motley Crue here in Edmonton and saw kids that were under 10 I wondered WTF the parents were thinking... Maybe I am just a grumpy old man. Also I mean you could have porn stars read to children but I am sure that would have everyone up in arms and angry.

Either way to answer the question, no it isn't child abuse. No I don't believe its grooming. The fact is grooming will happen everywhere. There are going to be bad people, be it a cub scout leader, a coach, a priest, a teacher..... The list could go on and on where there will be perverts. Would I take a child to a drag queen story time, no. You can, not my business. I think it is more about you than your child though. All this really should start at home. IF you are teaching you child acceptance by doing this thats good BUT it should start at home. You as a parent are the one who should be teaching your kid right from wrong. Empathy, compassion, open mindedness. As a parent it is your job to raise your child, not societies. I have admitted in this writing, ya I was put off at first but now its no big deal. Thats what you should be teaching your kid. To give things a try and the simple fact is not everything is for everyone. Some people are going to be uncomfortable with this and that is okay to. The irony in this is the people yelling you must accept! Don't accept when people don't agree with them. This was another blog that was going to be a tweet that just got to long.... Also I have a few more recent thoughts below......

I have 0 issues with Ivan Provorov not wearing a pride jersey. First off, he is an athlete. I am so tired of celebrities, athletes and other public figures jamming their ideas down our throats. I don't want to hear Jane Fonda or James Camerons ideas on our oil sands any more than I care about Provy wearing a jersey. They don't even live in the same world as us. Provys job is to play hockey and I guess he does it well. Second is the irony of it. People screaming everyone is equal! We must accept peoples pronouns! We must accept various races, gender identities, sexualities, religions!! Except in this case... Provy flat out said he respects peoples choices but he will stick to his religion. Why does someone sexuality override a persons religion.... It doesn't. People are acting like he attacked the LGBTQ community. He didn't he said its not for him & sorry I don't believe it has to be. He cause no one any harm (Except maybe in the "feels") I also wonder IF he wasn't white and he practiced another religion that we have seen stone homosexuals to death if the media would be freaking out? Or would it just be a blip in the news? Just wondering... I am not going to dig to deep into that. Last a lot of the same people mad he didn't wear a jersey are the same people saying how brave it was up Kap to kneel during the national anthem. So one protests against a nation that gave him everything is brave, one who isn't even protesting but saying that's not for me is bad? Either a person has the right to have different beliefs or they don't, pick a lane. In Provys place, ya I probably would have just worn the jersey. At the end of the day it doesn't really affect anyone but good for him standing for what he thinks is right. As a side note I understand what Kap did. Personally I wouldn't have. I hate when people don't stand for the anthem. We have a lot of issues here in the "West" BUT we also have more freedom and democracy than a lot of the world. Millions of fought and died to ensure that. I am grateful for that and will respect that, even if the current government is a giant shit show. The nation is still great. Kap probably could have found another way IMO but same as Provy I do admire someone who will stand (or kneel) for what they believe in. It is a very hard thing to do when society is pressuring you another way.

Also since it seems to fall in the same general concept as this blog I gotta say American Horror Story NYC sucked. The casting and acting was bang on as always! I get wanting to tell a story about AIDS in the early 80s and how shitty people were. The fact was ya, people were awful and we as a society failed the gay community there. I just dont know if AHS is the place to tell that story. I believe Ryan and Brad could write one hell of an AIDS story. They have the right dark tone. This season proved it, they did a great job of portraying the 80s. AHS though usually has some supernatural and spooky side to it and this one didn't. I think that is what Big Daddy and Sentinel were supposed to do but they were almost laughable and took away from the AIDS part of it. Plus the whole deer thing? It seems like they had half a dozen half baked plot lines and just said fuck it lets try them all. Honestly had Sentinel been "alive" like Frankenstein as they showed at the end of the episode that might have worked. A bunch more into Big Daddy might have worked. It is like they took a very serious and sad issue like AIDS half ass tried to spooky it up but really failed. I guess what I am saying is if they want to make a movie / series on AIDS and the 80s and shitty people, do it!! but don't try and spooky it up. The whole point of putting this ramble is just saying yes in the 80s into the 90s we were terrible to the LGBTQ community and yes we some what still are. This could have been a good look at it but it failed. If they want to make something on the 80s and the AIDS crisis that would be good but don't half ass it. It is almost disrespecting the people that were affected by it.

Edmonton / Highway of Tears

This was going to be a small paragraph in a bigger random blog but it grew really fast and the fact is I thought it was rather interesting so it will be post of its own. I decided to add some of these womens names. I once heard a pod about Jack the Rippers victims, that humanized them. I think thats what should be done, why glorify freak shows and forget about the people who suffered because of them. Also I added a bit more as I was just going to, just quickly mention Edmonton but I think it is bigger than that. Also still cannot find a legit decent looking charity to donate to for MMIWG.... Msg me if you know one! IS there a serial killer in Edmonton? Or was there one active? On another long drive home I came across podcasts on EPS, which led to pods on what they called the Edmonton - Leduc murders. Which if you have been around Edmonton for awhile I know you have heard of. I just was unaware of the amount and length of time this had been going on. First thing though not all these mur

Alberta Politics Pre 2019 election

Ahh that lovely time every few years when we see the worst in all people is upon us! That's right elections are coming! The brutal truth is both federally and provincially we are going to see shit get nasty. From both sides, let's not pretend anyone is innocent. This is all I am going to say on politics for awhile, at least until elections OR if something crazy happens. I really need to concentrate on actual writing. Not twitter bickering with people. So here is it my thoughts on the current federal and provincial politics. (Breaking this into 2 parts. This one is going to be just media and Alberta) First let's start with the sideliners. The media and the peanut gallery. Rebel Media OR Chicken little media. Whichever you want to call them is fine by me. It has been years now I was blocked for using common sense or not drinking the Kool-aid by Ezzie and the Rebel account. I can say I never dropped into name calling or anything like that with either, but I guess not believi

Part 3 Addiction

So, I have stated first, we need the correct systems in place, and second, we need healthy citizens for a better society. One of the root problems in society, though, is addiction. A mental health problem that can lead to so much more. Family violence, crime, homelessness, job loss, and on and on. There is no cure for addiction. There is management, and there are many things we can do much better to help addicts and society. So, let's tackle this one next.  I like drinking! I like the taste of a good whiskey or red wine. Or the supposed "no taste" of good vodka. I like that little boost of confidence that tells me, hell ya, you can dance! Or the fact that, yes, after a long day, it does take an edge off. I have a ton of great memories of times when booze was around... The flip side of that is I'm not too fond of hangovers. I hate not knowing what happened the night before; I guess there is a term for this now: hangxiety. Some of my worst memories and things I hate abo
