Omar Khadr

I gotta say a quick piece on this. I have put it in my head to do some blogs that aren't so political, so if you have an idea for me send it to me!!! That's right I am asking for ideas cause currently I am tapped. Which might be good, maybe a bit of my other writing can get done.Right now though the big thing is Canada paying a terrorist.... So here is what I have to say about Omar...

The facts are easy to follow. Omar was born in Canada, which our laws give hims all our rights and freedoms. Supposedly his father wasn't a very good Canadian. He kinda had terrorist leanings. He dragged his son into this. Poor Omar at the age of 15 got into a gun fight with US forces. He tossed a grenade which killed one man and wounded another plus he was injured and captured.

Now we run into the problems. Omar went to Gitmo. That's not a nice place.

We are the good guys, we tell ourselves that and for the most part it is true. The world, like war is changing. Our enemies no longer have a home nation for us to attack and defeat. They hide, they strike innocent people (Manchester) if we are going to are going to win this war we have to sink to that level. Not to the hurting innocent people but to having places like gitmo. Our enemies wont show us mercy... I hate to say it but I can sleep a bit better at night knowing there are people willing to do what needs done to keep us safe. People willing to do what the average person is not. There are limits to what I believe we should be able to do to our enemies but we really don't need to be civil.

So back to Omar. There is something big to look at, was he a child? It seems this makes all the difference. No one can argue his age. He was sent there at 15. Now to me at 15 you know right from wrong. (For example I did stupid things at 15 that I knew were wrong, but did them anyways) The day you turn 18 it Inst like you magically become a new person. Omar had to know murder is wrong. Lets not forget he is a Canadian citizen. That's the whole point of this. He should have some right from wrong) If not we have a whole new problem with the world in general.

So we have a "child" in Gitmo which is not right. Now either he is innocent and shouldn't be here, however he did kill a man. I would say that rules the innocent angle out. So then he should be in a prison. We lock away school shooters.... Some are tried as adults, shouldn't he be to? The second option is he was fully aware what he was doing was wrong, if so he belongs in gitmo. He is our enemy. Either way he belongs locked somewhere. Maybe gitmo isn't the right place, maybe.

SO here is the thing, from a strictly legal stand point Omar got justice. As a Canadian citizen, his rights were violated. This much is cleat according to our charter of rights. We would not want to have what was done to him done to us as Canadians. Here is the problem, when do your rights as a Canadian expire? Are you free to leave Canada. Then attack us and our allies and still be covered?? To me this isn't right. You cant hate us enough to attack us, to kill us and then when caught claim I am Canadian!!! I have rights! You cant have it both ways..... That is not right. A drunk driver is not allowed to just oops sorry! And get off with it. Omar should not be free to attack us and then just say wait a minute I am a son of Canada and you violated my rights! (The rights I was caught fighting against)

Either way our justice system believes that he should still have those rights. I personally do not. You cant in my mind fight against the but then jump on them when it becomes convenient. The system also thinks Omar deserves $10.5 million..... According to Google as of September 2016 the average Canadian income is just over $50,000 /  year. That means the average Canadian would have to work 210 years for that. So for killing an American solider our justice system figures he should get paid 210 years worth of income. More than anything that angers me!!! Likely anyone reading this will never make that kind of money. Hopefully none of you will kill our allies either.....

I freely admit I am not happy he is free to walk around Canada as a free man. That he can marry, father a family, vote liberal.... After he has attacked us. BUT maybe Omar is 100% sorry, maybe he really didn't enjoy fighting us. MAYBE he did wanna just be a good Canadian and was forced into it. Maybe it is just after living through the horrors at Gitmo he does deserve to be free. If I was him and innocent I would hope my freedom and life would be enough. For some reason though, that is not enough. For some reason he deserves $10.5 Million.

This is a slap in the face to the man who Omar injured and an extreme slap to the widow and children left behind. Will Canada pay them for what they suffered and will suffer done by our citizen? Will Canada pay that amount to every person hurt by Residential schools? All their rights were violated. Or the people interned during WWII??? IMO this is a slap in the face to all of us. Will someone being paying Nick Bergs family? He was innocent and had his head chopped of by our enemies, who will be paying him?

The last thing I can say about this is, there is a million things going on here. It isn't just a black and white issue. You have terrorism and the new way of war. You have how long does the Canadian Charter protect you. You have child soldiers. You have have human rights and torture. You have a million different view points. I wont shy away from the fact this IMO is wrong. The worst thing though is how it is dividing our country. The truth is that is exactly what our enemies want.

Edmonton / Highway of Tears

This was going to be a small paragraph in a bigger random blog but it grew really fast and the fact is I thought it was rather interesting so it will be post of its own. I decided to add some of these womens names. I once heard a pod about Jack the Rippers victims, that humanized them. I think thats what should be done, why glorify freak shows and forget about the people who suffered because of them. Also I added a bit more as I was just going to, just quickly mention Edmonton but I think it is bigger than that. Also still cannot find a legit decent looking charity to donate to for MMIWG.... Msg me if you know one! IS there a serial killer in Edmonton? Or was there one active? On another long drive home I came across podcasts on EPS, which led to pods on what they called the Edmonton - Leduc murders. Which if you have been around Edmonton for awhile I know you have heard of. I just was unaware of the amount and length of time this had been going on. First thing though not all these mur...

Alberta Politics Pre 2019 election

Ahh that lovely time every few years when we see the worst in all people is upon us! That's right elections are coming! The brutal truth is both federally and provincially we are going to see shit get nasty. From both sides, let's not pretend anyone is innocent. This is all I am going to say on politics for awhile, at least until elections OR if something crazy happens. I really need to concentrate on actual writing. Not twitter bickering with people. So here is it my thoughts on the current federal and provincial politics. (Breaking this into 2 parts. This one is going to be just media and Alberta) First let's start with the sideliners. The media and the peanut gallery. Rebel Media OR Chicken little media. Whichever you want to call them is fine by me. It has been years now I was blocked for using common sense or not drinking the Kool-aid by Ezzie and the Rebel account. I can say I never dropped into name calling or anything like that with either, but I guess not believi...

Part 3 Addiction

So, I have stated first, we need the correct systems in place, and second, we need healthy citizens for a better society. One of the root problems in society, though, is addiction. A mental health problem that can lead to so much more. Family violence, crime, homelessness, job loss, and on and on. There is no cure for addiction. There is management, and there are many things we can do much better to help addicts and society. So, let's tackle this one next.  I like drinking! I like the taste of a good whiskey or red wine. Or the supposed "no taste" of good vodka. I like that little boost of confidence that tells me, hell ya, you can dance! Or the fact that, yes, after a long day, it does take an edge off. I have a ton of great memories of times when booze was around... The flip side of that is I'm not too fond of hangovers. I hate not knowing what happened the night before; I guess there is a term for this now: hangxiety. Some of my worst memories and things I hate abo...
